Sachin Tendulkar didn’t need cricket lessons. He needed someone to see what he couldn’t. It’s the same with you.

Tendulkar was already one of the best batters in the world when Sunil Gavaskar noticed something about his front foot. It was angling slightly towards cover instead of pointing straight at the bowler. A tiny thing. Almost invisible to everyone, including Tendulkar himself.

He couldn’t see it because he was inside the game, playing every ball, giving everything he had. That’s the nature of a blind spot: it hides from the person who has it. Gavaskar mentioned it in a conversation as an observer sharing what he saw with someone he wished well. Tendulkar adjusted. After that correction, Sachin made most of his career-defining runs. With just one small shift in the foot position, a legacy was transformed.

This is what a CEO Coach does.

I think about this story often when I sit with CEOs. They don’t come to me because they lack knowledge. These are people who have built companies, led teams through chaos, and made decisions most would run away from. They know leadership. They come because something isn’t working and they can’t figure out what.

Usually, it’s not a big thing. It’s something small hiding in plain sight, like a way of communicating that shuts people down, a reaction that doesn’t land the way they intend, a pattern they can’t see because they’re too close to it. Only someone standing outside, watching with experience and care, can reflect it.

Tendulkar didn’t need more cricket lessons. He needed someone to show him what he couldn’t see.

It’s the same with most of us, including the CEOs! Uncovering blind spots help them scale-up their leadership impact.
