Censoring

It is not unusual to see team members censoring themselves from voicing their perspectives for the fear of being ridiculed or possibility of their opinion being different from majority view or that of the leader.

Self-censoring becomes even more acute when the leaders express their opinion / perspective early on.

To encourage critical thinking and get different perspectives to the table, leaders might avoid taking firm positions at the outset, and delay expressing their perspectives – that would provide more space for discussion and lessen the censoring…
